"Draw up a list" - Found Poem from The Art of Character by David Corbett

Draw up a list

Of scenes

That particularly move

[you]

Scare

Enrage

Excite

Disgust

Bring to tears

(Especially this)

Accept that what they have to say

Touches you deeply:

The importance of home

The solace of friendship

The redemption of an outcast

Through a selfless act of courage,

The vindicating power of

(or destructive illusion)

Of romantic love.

It’s important

To recognize those themes

That touch you most profoundly.

In an age that prizes ironic detachment

Deeply caring about something

And allowing yourself to be

Profoundly moved

Can feel like

Bad form.

But you can’t create meaningfully

Without caring deeply.
