This Business of Anger

 It's a big business these days -

A commodity

But the economics of it baffle me a bit.

Anger is what they're selling -

Yelling over our screens -

The screen sized vary,

but the anger is always large.

Be outraged by this!

Be disgusted by that!

Are you angry yet?

Well, try this then!

That'll take you over the top.!

They sell anger.

It's what they produce.

Why would people keep coming back

For such an unpleasant product?

But then I remember

That anger has its pleasures.

It satisfies

Our craving to be right,

Our desire for Certainty,

Our love of black and white and no shades or hues or nuances in the middle.

The clear, real purity and distinct sharpness

Of our own point of view.

Anger keeps you coming back

For more.

Without it, you don't know

What to do with your thoughts.

We turn on the screen

And get a hit.

Self-righteous rage -

The addiction,

The epidemic.

We might get angry about it,

If they wanted us to be.
